Every time the year changes, most of us think of something we would like to reform in our lives for the upcoming year, and every year, we’ve been trying to come up with a traditional “New Year’s resolution,” mostly the “avoiding, preventing, limiting, or reducing” negative behavior or thoughts. Welcoming 2021 may feel a little bit different. With our fate of this COVID-19 pandemic still uncertain, our views, plans, and hopes will greatly transform everything. But this gives us a chance to aim for something helpful and consider putting greater focus on long-term goals of becoming healthier above all things. We have come to realize that there are more important things than planning to reduce partying and drinking, avoid binge-watching, or limit video gaming. Now, we must emphasize on “engaging, promoting, increasing, and expanding” in activities, behaviors, and thoughts that are beneficial to us amidst the ongoing pandemic. We must aim to become a better and healthier we this 2021.
INCREASE YOUR INTAKE OF HEALTHY FOODS AND DRINKS:Set up a healthy eating plan. Make a way for more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Ensure that you include protein in your breakfast to keep your blood sugar levels more stable throughout the day. Avoid too much sugar and red meat, as well as foods high in saturated fats. Always think of healthy snacks at home or work.
ENGAGE MORE IN REGULAR EXERCISE:Staying fit boosts your cardiovascular and muscular system while enhancing your immune system to fight any disease. Exercise also helps the body to relieve stress and reduce depression. The American Heart Association recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week or 75 minutes of high-intensity training. Come up with an exercise routine. You don’t need to go to the gym every day. There are a number of remote Zumba, kickboxing, and dance class programs that you can try while staying at home.
MAINTAIN A REGULAR SLEEP HABITS:Keep a regular sleep schedule and get at least 8 hours of sleep at night. Avoid caffeine during the latter part of the day, turn off your devices before bedtime, avoid periods of naps, and cut out your alcohol intake. Having a healthier immune system gives us a better defense against developing a COVID infection, so it’s important to rest and prioritize sleep.
PLAN FOR A HEALTHIER SOCIAL LIFE:Engage more in healthier social life and activities by joining or participating in meaningful activities and events that encourages good health, such as fun runs, group hike, or bike rides that support great causes. Just make sure to follow the health protocols in preventing COVID-19 transmission.
HAVE YOUR GENERAL HEALTH IN CHECK TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROMCOVID-19:We’ve been continuously reminded to always wear a mask, wash our hands, and maintain social distancing when we go out. Apart from these, getting a schedule for a doctor’s appointment, especially if you’re having flu, is important. Also, make sure to take your daily dose of vitamins and maintenance medicine to keep your health and well-being always in check.
